Hi, I’m Rachael harned
Theatre has always been a passion of mine, and when I found lighting designing everything felt like it fell into place.
I have been a Lighting Designer for the past 7 years. Currently located in Boston, MA after having spent 6 years living and designing in Salt Lake City, UT. I have BFA in Lighting and Scenic Design from the University of Utah and I’m currently working on my MFA at Boston University (expected graduation Spring 2026). I have been granted the opportunity over the years to work as a designer in many different theatrical spaces, designing for both theatre and dance.
The theatre has always felt like home to me. I love the collaboration and creativity that comes with telling stories to others. Let me help you tell yours!
My Approach
It all begins with an idea!
Dream it
Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. Your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. Your ideas are what I want to hear. It’s my job to talk them through with you to help make them happen.
Communication and collaboration
Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolves we go through this process together. As we work to bring your story to life, you will always receive clear communication and constant collaboration from me.
Creativity
Creativity is a key aspect to this process. Allowing ourselves to be creative and enjoy the work we are creating together is so important. Let’s allow our creativity to take over and see where it can take us.
